Balamban, Cebu – A total of thirteen inmates in this part of the country heeded the call to water baptism in another batch of submission early this year.
Ptr. Noel Balanay, resident Pastor of Sector 6 Balamban, Cebu launched jail evangelism as early as 2018 and have since maintained jail visits to conduct lessons on ways and steps to salvation every Tuesdays of the week from 9 to 11 in the morning.
In an interview with Ptr. Balanay as to the significance of Jail Ministry, he said “it is of vital importance in evangelism since the inmates are one of the most neglected people in the society and are considered as outcasts. But the Bible says in Luke 19:10 that the son of man is come to seek and save that which was lost; they are lost just like us”.
Four of the 13 inmates were already released while 2 were transferred to Leyte to serve their remaining jail terms, bringing the inmates to only 7.
“While we still have 7 inmates to visit, our jail ministry continuous and we have them participated also in the Lord’s Supper every third week of the Month”, explained Ptr. Balanay during an interview.
Asked what drove him to launch jail ministry, Ptr. Balanay replied “I have that strong conviction to impart to them God's plan for salvation. The Bible says in 1 Timothy 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of truth. I'm so blessed and happy that God called me to preach to them the gospel. If nobody cares for them, then who else will? Being a preacher of righteousness, we must preach the gospel to all people regardless of their status or affiliation in the society”.
The jail ministry is a collaborative effort of OPIF Philippines S6 brethren under the his pastorship.
