Nowadays, most people answer the question about what love is by stating what they feel. In some cases, people share their emotions, experiences, and even who they want to spend their "forever" with, a shallow understanding of love, since it pertains to a temporary attachment that passes when the other party parted ways, or died.
Now this leads us to the question, what is love then? And the answer is “God is love” as stated in 1 John 4:8 and verse 16. Love is not just part of who God is, but He Himself is love, which means unconditional, pure, complete, will never fade and will lasts until eternity. As a continuation of verse 16, it says: "Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him." So as Christians, we need to be molded into His likeness, in love, which can only be accomplished with the help of God's Spirit.
But God's love is sacrificial, because true love costs something. Isn’t this true?
In fact, for love, He gave his only begotten son (John 3:16), Jesus, who gave His life for us. He was hanged and nailed to the cross to save us. This is because without His blood there’s no remission of our sins (Hebrews 9:22).
And for this reason, He died so all could see His magnificent plan, show His power, and display His victory over evil and death. And although we do not deserve this, He willingly gave it to us, because we are His special children, whom He created and shaped in His own righteousness, from the beginning of the world.
When He loved us, it cost Him His life, so shouldn't we also be ready to pay a price for loving Him?
When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord, we not only receive a complete and satisfying life, but we become a participant in doing His righteous Will. We are expected to show love to others, since He revealed to us that He desires for everyone to experience His great love, through His salvation.
That is why we are expected to give our efforts in sharing His Gospel with every soul because everyone needs salvation, because that is His Great Commission. We have to spend time in praying and studying His Word, so we can get to know Him better, and we can have the confidence to speak about Him to anyone we will meet. We need to share our talents for His ministry. We ought to give our treasures to support other ministries for His works. We must show Him our love by giving our best to Him. It has to costs us something if we really say we love Him.
Remember that the world's love will fade, but Jesus' love will last forever. So let's spread His love now, while we are still in the grace period, so everyone can experience it. Because a time will come when He judges us all. At the end of the world, Jesus Christ will return to all who serve and follow Him faithfully, to those who endure until the end to bring them into His paradise. And we don't want our loved ones or friends left behind, right?
Jesus' love cost Him to be crucified on the cross. This was His demonstration of the pure and unconditional love for all of us, and today He wants you to spread and share that love.
