The Starting Point- Is You!

posted in: Opinion

As we traveled this road called life, we all had different plans and purposes. If everything goes according to what we desire, we will be who we always wanted to be, or we will have everything we always wanted. Nevertheless, this is not always the case, since there are many factors outside our human control, including people around us, the weather, the economy, time, our health, our past, and death, among others. The outcome of our plans may not always be what we expected at the end of the day, even when we plan ahead.

It is, however, impossible to compare our thoughts and plans with what God has in mind for us all, as His thoughts and ways are far higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9). From the beginning, He already revealed His intention for us, and that is never to harm us, but to make us part of His expected end (Jeremiah 29:11): eternal life in His kingdom, with Him.

So, regardless of what purpose we set out on this life, and even if conversion was not an integral part of our journey, we will all cross the path of salvation, not because it is a chance occurrence, but rather because it is a predestined path that has been determined for us to walk since the beginning of time. “A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps (Proverbs 16:9). God’s will is to save us all (1Timothy 2:4) from the bondage of sin that separates us from Him.

In spite of this, misconceptions continue to arise regarding God’s plan of salvation; some claim that this is reserved for good-goody or saint-like people, and that sinners like us are not eligible. This belief however, is incorrect. Salvation is not limited to a particular denomination or reserved for a select group of individuals within a society, nor is it an exclusive membership of the upper class.

As a matter of fact, the Bible (which is God's Word) tells us that all of us have sinned and fall short of God’s glory (Romans 3:23). We cannot compare who is the greatest sinner nor the least among us, because we are all sinners in God's eyes, who are destined to death, for there is no one righteous among us, not even one (Romans 3:10), except Jesus, who manifested Himself to take away our sin, and in Him is no sin (1 John 3:5). Jesus is our Saviour (Matthew 1:21), our Lord and our God (John 20:28). That while we were yet sinners, He died for us (Romans 5:8). And if we believe in Him, we will be saved (Acts 16:31) and receive the gift of eternal life (Romans 6:23).

So, if salvation is a pre-destined path for everyone, why do some fail to find it? It is because most of us will only pass this road and not look back. Therefore, we fail to recognize that Jesus stands in front of us as we embark on this journey. Our reaction is to brush off those guides trying to direct us in this direction as if they had some contagious disease, ignoring their calls and even laughing at them. We do not even care about the papers we step on the ground because we consider them dirty and worthless, and we immediately swipe up those feeds in our social media accounts that contain God Words, as if reading them would waste so much of our time. Even if the Bible were right in front of us, we would not take the initiative to open and read it.

The way to salvation is not difficult to find, as its starting point is you. Yes you! As the path is already established, all you need to do is walk towards it, choose it, and abide by it. Your will, your desire, and your decision.

You see, there is only one life journey, and despite the fact that you cannot control what happens in this life, we can look forward to our eternal destiny at the time of the Lord's second coming, if you chose Him. Wouldn't it be wonderful if you chose Christ today and spent your future with Him? The choices we make today will have a significant impact on our future. For this reason, let's say yes to Jesus and begin walking on the path of salvation He provides.
