The intensifying threat of the virus is shutting the world slowly. Public places like restaurants, malls, parks and other establishments were already closed. Community lockdown are widespread; some companies are also measuring strict number of office hours while others are totally closed. Employees from both and private sectors are advised to self-quarantine at home specially those who are sick. All for one reason, to prevent the spreading of the virus.
COVID-19 - popularly known as Corona Virus started to one country and now affecting all countries worldwide and was labeled a global pandemic. It’s death toll peaks to more than 7,000 and still there are hundreds of thousands are affected. The numbers are increasing everyday.
With this alarming daily scenario, this leads me to question, are we afraid to die? Have you ever thought, one day you will be next? No one knows when it will be. You are maybe safe now, tomorrow you are not, because our world has no assurance and death has no definite time. Humans now are now like walking in a thin wire and every little string is life and every wrong move is death.
Like a potent venom to society, virus really can cause death. One bite, you are dead! But to Jesus, death where is your sting? Christian must know that Jesus promised us the victory over death. This is the reason why He died and resurrected. As it is written in the book of Acts 13:39, “And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.”
People fear to die, and this is the reality. But as a Christian, why should I be afraid, yet I know my glorious future is with Christ. I already had the promise “victory over death through our Lord Jesus Christ”. 1 Corinthians 15:57 “But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ”. This must be our doze of medicine more than sanitizers and alcohol.
Proverbs 29:25 taught us the most important thing. The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe. Just because people sinned, they know they will be punished by God, but we know Jesus took all the punishments so man shall be saved. Though this is not an exemption or license to do wicked things, but we must be more Christ-like and live life according to His purpose. “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.” Because the one who fears is not perfectly made by love.
Let us not spend our lives in the shadow of fear, but instead in the canopy of prayer. To stand strong despite the odds of the terrifying pandemic is a challenge and there is no amount of bravery can save us, but faith does. 1 Corinthians 15:51 “Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” Death has no sting and will never have one to Jesus, because He is the ONLY way, the truth and the life.
Let me reiterate what Paul said in Philippians 1:21 says, “to live is Christ and to die is gain”. Jesus is my life and my death is just a new phase towards eternal life with Him.
Death where is your sting? Absolutely Nothing!
