OPIF-Dunes - “No Time for Losers, Cause We are the Champion”, a familiar line of a song by the Queen, yet seemed to be true with OPIF Dunes Sector 2 which remained unscathed in sporting event as it bagged the AMF Overall Championship Crown not only once but thrice in a row in the recently concluded OPIF Men’s Fellowship Sportsfest held in this City on March 6, 2020.
Clad in yellow jerseys, Sector 2 athletes captured gold in basketball, silver in dart tournament and bronze in table tennis while S5 came close with gold in “Name the Tune” and bronze in badminton and Sector 9 tailed behind with gold in table tennis and bronze in dart tournament. Volleyball match and Men and Women in the Bible were both removed from the official medal haul as decided by the AMF Games committee.
Close to 200 participants joined in the annual sports festival hosted by the AMF which began with a morning Divine Service followed by an opening ceremony highlighting a symbolic torch relay among participating sectors. Early on the service, Ptr. Reynaldo Alipio, the AMF National Director exhorted this year’s theme, an excerpt from the Book of Act 16:31.
Awarding of medals and trophies culminated the full day event led by the Board Chairman Ptr. Emiliano Neric and NC Overseer Ptr. Allyn Gagarin among others. In a separate NC meeting, the council decided to break the tie on draw lots among Sectors 5, 9 and 10 which rendered the final first, second and third respectively on the final rank.
Sector 2 emerged the Overall Champion in years 2018 and 2019 respectively.
The AMF SF Committee conveyed its heartfelt thanks to all who made the event successful.
